What is an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon?

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMS) are men and women who have graduated from dental school with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree. They have trained an additional four to six years in a hospital setting along with medical interns, residents and fellows in various disciplines of medicine and surgery.

A significant amount of the OMS resident’s training is spent on medical and surgical rotations in areas such as internal medicine, emergency medicine, anesthesiology, neurosurgery, cardiology, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, general surgery, pulmonary medicine, radiology and trauma surgery. The OMS resident who completes the six year residency also gets a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree. All OMS are trained to treat a wide range of oral and facial conditions. Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are highly regarded by their medical and dental colleagues alike.

You can rest assured that your TSOMS OMS member is held to a high peer-review standard. All TSOMS OMS members have to pass an anesthesia inspection to ensure that you are treated appropriate to your needs.
