AAOMS Coding Resources
AAOMS frequently receives calls from members seeking assistance with selecting the appropriate CPT® code when submitting dental procedures to medical insurance, or with determining why a claim may have been denied. Many members question the appropriate manner in which to participate or not participate with Medicare or whether they really have to accept the dental payer’s contracted rate for noncovered services. Others are not aware of how the No Surprises Act affects them or that the concept of “insurance only” billing or not returning payer overpayments within 60 days may put them at risk for a government audit.
The answers to all these questions and more are provided in the following AAOMS courses and/or publications:
- AAOMS Coding Courses
- AAOMS Coding & Billing Webinars
- AAOMS Insurance Manual
- AAOMS Today Coding Corner and Health Policy Perspectives
- AAOMS Website-Coding & Reimbursement
- AAOMS Coding & Billing Papers, White Papers, and Advocacy Statements
These resources have been created specifically for OMSs to deal with complex reimbursement issues involving Medicare and commercial medical and dental policy; CPT®, CDT®, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding guidelines; and other issues that frequently challenge our specialty.
It’s important to participate in AAOMS Coding and Billing Courses and Webinars, especially because the surgeon is ultimately responsible for the claim submitted even if not personally selecting the procedural or diagnostic codes.
The series of AAOMS coding and billing courses and webinars provide oral and maxillofacial surgeons and their staff with the necessary tools to achieve coding compliance and attain optimal reimbursement while preventing fraud and abuse. AAOMS offers seven online courses and two in-person coding workshops and hosts up to four coding and billing related webinars every year. There is a course for everyone regardless of if someone is a novice coder or has been coding for many years. The 2023 schedule is available on the AAOMS website at AAOMS.org/CodingBilling. Please encourage your members to sign up for a course today.
The AAOMS Insurance Manual: A Comprehensive Billing and Reimbursement Guide for the OMS, 2nd Edition is a must-have reference for your office as it guides you through the insurance process from filing to appealing. The manual includes to-the-point information on claim filing and reimbursement regulations, HIPAA regulations, coding compliance, managed care policies and appropriate documentation. This manual is available from the AAOMS E-Store.
